Arctic foxes are carnivores that hunt small animals like lemmings, voles, and birds. They have an incredible sense of hearing that lets them locate prey hidden under snow. In the wild, arctic foxes typically live 3 to 6 years, though some reach 10 years. In captivity, they can live up to 14 years. Their lifespans depend heavily on food availability, which fluctuates dramatically as lemming populations cycle every few years, affecting breeding success.

Arctic foxes are not currently endangered and their population status is stable overall. However, climate change poses significant threats as melting ice affects their habitat and prey availability. Some regional populations face challenges, making ongoing conservation efforts important for their long-term survival.
