Yangchuanosaurus Coloring Pages

Yangchuanosaurus was absolutely massive, reaching up to 35 feet long and weighing around 3 tons. That makes it roughly the same size as a city bus and one of the largest predators in Jurassic Asia, even bigger than many famous carnivorous dinosaurs!

This fierce predator hunted large plant-eating dinosaurs like Mamenchisaurus and Tuojiangosaurus. It used its powerful legs to chase down prey, then delivered crushing bites with 4-inch long serrated teeth designed specifically for slicing through flesh and bone.

Yangchuanosaurus roamed the forests and plains of what is now central China during the Middle to Late Jurassic period, approximately 160 to 157 million years ago. The climate was much warmer and more humid than modern China.

The first Yangchuanosaurus skeleton was discovered in 1978 in Sichuan Province, China, by construction workers building a dam. The fossil was so well-preserved that scientists could study its complete skull, spine, and limb bones in incredible detail.

Unlike many other large predators, Yangchuanosaurus had distinctively large, powerful arms with sharp claws for grasping prey. It also had prominent ridges above its eyes and a robust skull built for delivering incredibly powerful bone-crushing bites.
