Emperor Qin Shi Huang lived from 259 to 210 BCE and became emperor in 221 BCE at age 38. He ruled for only 15 years but accomplished more than most rulers who reigned for decades, completely transforming Chinese civilization forever.

He unified China by conquering seven warring kingdoms, built much of the Great Wall, standardized currency and writing systems, and created uniform laws. He also constructed an enormous underground army of terracotta soldiers to guard his tomb.

He created the first unified Chinese empire and established systems that lasted for over 2,000 years. His standardization of writing, currency, and measurements helped create Chinese national identity and culture that continues today.

He was obsessed with finding immortality and sent expeditions to search for magic elixirs. Ironically, he may have died from mercury poisoning while taking pills he believed would make him live forever.

He standardized everything from coins and writing to the width of cart wheels. He built roads connecting distant regions, established uniform laws, and even dictated how people should measure length, weight, and volume.

China's name comes from his Qin dynasty, and his unified writing system still influences Chinese characters today. The Great Wall remains one of the world's most famous landmarks, attracting millions of visitors annually.
