Queen Hatshepsut In Pharaonic Beard Coloring Pages

Hatshepsut ruled Egypt from approximately 1479 to 1458 BCE during the 18th Dynasty. She lived over 3,400 years ago during Egypt's New Kingdom period, which was considered a golden age of prosperity and artistic achievement.

The false beard was a sacred symbol of pharaonic power that all Egyptian kings wore during ceremonies. When Hatshepsut became pharaoh, she adopted this traditional symbol to legitimize her rule and show she possessed the same divine authority as male pharaohs.

Hatshepsut built the magnificent temple at Deir el-Bahari, established profitable trade expeditions to the land of Punt, and brought 22 years of peace and prosperity to Egypt. She also erected more monuments than any pharaoh except Ramesses II.

Originally regent for her young stepson Thutmose III, Hatshepsut gradually took on full pharaonic powers and declared herself pharaoh. This was extremely unusual, as Egypt had very few female rulers throughout its 3,000-year history.

Many of her statues and inscriptions were deliberately damaged or destroyed, likely by later pharaohs trying to erase her from history. However, enough survived for archaeologists to rediscover her remarkable story in modern times.

Hatshepsut wore the double crown of Upper and Lower Egypt, the uraeus serpent on her forehead, and carried the crook and flail scepters. She also adopted male royal clothing and poses in her official portraits and statues.
